Trezor Not Recognised by Computer: Complete Fix Guide (2026)

Trezor Not Recognised by Computer: Complete Fix Guide (2026)

Quick Checklist

Before going through full solutions, check these basics:

  • Is the Trezor screen lit up when connected? (If blank, it’s a power issue)
  • Are you using the cable that came with the device?
  • Is Trezor Suite up to date?
  • Are you connecting via USB, not a hub or extension cable?

Fix 1: Try a Different USB Cable

The most common cause. Many USB cables are charge-only and don’t carry data. Trezor requires a data cable.

  • Use the cable included in the Trezor box
  • Try a USB cable labelled “USB 3.0” or “data transfer”
  • Avoid phone charger cables — they often don’t carry data

Fix 2: Try a Different USB Port

USB hubs and front-panel desktop ports can be unreliable. Try:

  • A direct port on the back of a desktop (connected directly to the motherboard)
  • A different port on a laptop
  • A different computer entirely, to rule out computer-specific issues

Fix 3: Install Trezor Bridge

Trezor Bridge is a background service that allows web browsers and desktop apps to communicate with Trezor devices. Without it, Trezor Suite may not detect the hardware.

  • Go to trezor.io/trezor-bridge
  • Download for your operating system
  • Install and restart your computer
  • Reconnect the Trezor

Trezor Suite installs Trezor Bridge automatically on first launch, but it may have been removed by antivirus software or system cleaning tools.

Fix 4: Windows — Check Device Manager

Windows sometimes fails to assign the correct driver to the Trezor.

  • Connect your Trezor
  • Open Device Manager (search in Start menu)
  • Look for an Unknown Device or a device with a yellow warning icon
  • Right-click → Update driver → Search automatically

If the driver installs successfully, Trezor Suite should detect the device.

Fix 5: macOS — Allow the Device

macOS Ventura and later may block new USB devices until explicitly approved.

  • Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security
  • Look for a prompt about a blocked USB device
  • Click Allow

Also ensure Trezor Suite has the necessary permissions under Privacy & Security.

Fix 6: Reinstall Trezor Suite

A corrupted Trezor Suite installation can cause detection failures.

  • Uninstall Trezor Suite (including app data if prompted)
  • Download the latest version from trezor.io/trezor-suite
  • Install fresh and reconnect the device

Fix 7: Check Security Software

Antivirus and firewall software can block Trezor Bridge or Trezor Suite from communicating with the device.

  • Temporarily disable antivirus and try again
  • If it works with antivirus off, add Trezor Suite and Trezor Bridge as exceptions
  • Common culprits: Avast, McAfee, Kaspersky, Windows Defender Firewall

Fix 8: Update Trezor Firmware

If your Trezor is running old firmware, it may not be compatible with the current Trezor Suite version.

  • In Trezor Suite, go to Settings → Device
  • If a firmware update is available, install it
  • Note: if the device isn’t detected, you may need to enter bootloader mode to force-detect it

Entering bootloader mode (Trezor Safe 5 / Model T):

Hold the touchscreen while connecting the USB cable. The bootloader screen appears — Trezor Suite should then detect it.

Entering bootloader mode (Trezor Model One):

Hold both side buttons while connecting. Release when the bootloader screen appears.

Fix 9: Use a Different Browser (for Web Interface)

If you’re using the Trezor web wallet instead of the desktop app:

  • Use Chrome or Brave — best WebUSB/WebHID support
  • Firefox and Safari have limited hardware wallet support
  • Make sure Trezor Bridge is running

Still Not Working?

If none of the above resolves the issue:

  • Visit trezor.io/support for live chat and ticket support
  • If the device is under warranty (2 years), Trezor will replace a defective unit
  • Use the Trezor Suite diagnostics tool: Settings → About → Diagnostics

Frequently Asked Questions

My Trezor screen turns on but Trezor Suite says “No device” — why?

Most likely: wrong USB cable (charge-only), missing Trezor Bridge, or a Trezor Suite update is needed. Check all three.

Trezor worked yesterday, doesn’t work today — what changed?

Possible causes: a Windows/macOS system update that affected USB drivers, Trezor Suite auto-update requiring a firmware match, or a cable failure. Start with a different cable and port.

Can I use Trezor without Trezor Suite?

Yes — for MetaMask and web3 dApps, Trezor connects via the browser directly. For firmware updates and initial setup, Trezor Suite is required.

My Trezor shows a screen but won’t respond to anything — is it broken?

Try holding the power/reset button for 10 seconds. If it doesn’t respond, enter bootloader mode (see Fix 8) and attempt a firmware reinstall via Trezor Suite.
